Transfer Rate Test

The Transfer Rate Test measures the data transfer rate and displays the results in a graph.
The test also determines the reading type of the drive (CLV, CAV or P-CAV)
There's an option to display the speed in X speed and KB/s. Please note that the X speed can not be compared to the X speed of CD's. 1X DVD is about equal to 9X CD.

Important note: testing with DVD Video's
Most DVD Video's use a copyprotection called CSS which locks the disc and makes it impossible to read data from it.
If such a disc is used for testing the drive with DVD Speed, the test will abort with error code 056F03.
A solution for this is to unlock the disc by playing the video with a software DVD Video player which will unlock the disc.
The disc remains unlocked until it's removed from the drive or until the system is restarted.
You can immediately shut down the DVD Video player after you started to play the disc.

Seek Times Test

With this test the random, 1/3 stroke and full stroke seek times are measured.
To perform this test, the DVD must have a capacity of at least 4 GB.

CPU Utilization Test

The CPU utilization at 1X is measured.
This value is very important for multimedia applications, especially for playing DVD Video's. A low value will give the CPU more processing power for decoding and displaying the MPEG movie files which is very CPU intensive.

Spinup/spindown Test

For high speed drives it is necessary to spin down the drive to lengthen the life of the optical parts.
The spinup test measures how long it takes before the drive can read data after it has stopped.
Faster drives will have higher spinup/down times.
